Airport Sees Busiest Year
January 12, 2006
The number of passengers boarding airplanes at Abilene Regional Airport smashed last year's total and the previous record set in 1994, officials said Wednesday. Nearly 83,500 people boarded airplanes at Abilene Regional Airport in 2005, up 14 percent from the 73,300 that boarded in 2004. Dan Weber, the Airport's Director of Aviation, shared the information with the Airport Development Board on Wednesday. The last record was set in 1994 when 74,120 people boarded planes here. Chris Proctor-Cleveland, the Airport's Business Development Manager, told the Board the record was set in 2005 with just two carriers, as opposed to the four carriers operating out of the Airport in 1994. Continental Connection flies between Houston and Abilene four times a day.
