TSTC, FPL to offer wind energy job training

Texas State Technical College West Texas and FPL Energy have joined forces to educate and train people in wind energy turbine technology positions. A signing ceremony was held Thursday at the TSTC Sweetwater campus to mark the partnership. TSTC offers a two-year degree developed by its faculty in collaboration with program advisory group members of the industry, including the West Texas Wind Consortium, FPL Energy and other wind energy companies. As part of the agreement, FPL Energy will assist with the curriculum by:

  • Offering subject matter experts and faculty adjuncts
  • Allowing opportunities for participants to interact with FP&L representatives on and off campus
  • Providing paid internships within FPL Energy wind operations
  • Working with the college to generate the equipment and other resources for the laboratory facilities.

TSTC West Texas will:

  • Identify and recruit candidates for the program
  • Develop marketing efforts
  • Develop the curriculum that meets the needs of FPL Energy
  • Provide opportunities for the students to interact with professionals in the field
  • Provide service learning opportunities in the community
  • Generate high quality candidates with the Associates of Applied Science degree or other credentials as determined appropriate for hire by FPL Energy
