Hendrick was one of 12 companies that won an international 2007 Gallup Great Workplace Award for the most “engaged” and productive workforces. Winners were announced Tuesday. Hendrick officials said the award was a mark of distinction and were excited to hear about it. “If you look at the list we’re compared with, it’s just fantastic.” said J.V. Martin, chairman of Hendrick’s board of trustees. The Gallup Organization, which may be most recognized for its polling methods, selected the winners from a Gallup database of 455 businesses with more than 1,000 employees and from 5.6 million employee surveys complied from the last three years, said Eric Nielsen, senior director of media strategies. Gallup determined the core questions are the questions that best predict a company’s performance and business outcomes - Hendrick and the other companies had the best survey scores and met various other criteria, including survey participation, Nielson said. “A big part of (winning) is our employees,” said Tim Lancaster, Hendrick president and CEO. “This award is all about employees and how they feel about working here.” Hendrick looks for people who want to make a difference in the world and are willing to work for that difference, Lancaster said. The award also speaks volumes about Abilene, said Mike McMahan, president of Abilene Chamber of Commerce. “This is yet another indication of the community’s ability to attract good businesses and good employees,” he said. “An award at this level is very, very positive.”
