Senior Safe at Home announced the opening of their national Client Service Center in Abilene, Texas and the hiring of Mark A. Horner as its Chief Executive Officer. Senior Safe at Home Board Chair, Keith Perry introduced Horner by saying “after an extensive national search process, we are thrilled to have someone of Mark’s caliber as the CEO.” Horner has over 25 years of healthcare IT experience, most recently as Vice President of Cerner Corporation for ten years.
Senior Safe at Home is an integrated service delivery system that gives local home care and senior living providers a variety of tools to help older adults stay independent and safer in their homes for as long as possible. “Senior Safe at Home offers unique options for today's older adults and the growing number of aging boomers to live more independently and in more control of their health as various needs increase. Most older adults would choose to remain in their home setting as long as is reasonably possible. Senior Safe at Home makes that easier and safer by monitoring their health conditions, and it is more affordable than using traditional housing solutions.
Sears Methodist Retirement System began working on the concept for Senior Safe at Home four years ago. Perry, who is also the President and CEO of Sears Methodist Retirement System said “We started by exploring ways to help older people prevent some of the most common problems that land them in the hospital, which are falls and medication errors. We researched and tested technology solutions and worked to tie those solutions together with software.” The end result is a care system that includes local senior living and home care providers, equipment such as personal emergency response, automated medication dispensing, telehealth, and fall sensors networked together to the national Client Service Center. “Sears Methodist Community Services is the first local provider to use the Senior Safe at Home system, and Abilene is the anchor of Senior Safe at Home’s National Client Service Center, which includes twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week coverage by registered nurses” Perry said. “We are very grateful for the support provided in this process by local foundations as well as the Development Corporation of Abilene.” Senior Safe at Home’s Abilene employment is expected to grow to seventeen over the next few years, producing a payroll of up to $1,000,000 each year.
Mr. Perry states, “Within the next several months we will launch Senior Safe at Home in locations throughout Michigan, Illinois, Kansas, South Carolina, Ohio and other Texas cities. We’re proud and thankful that this national organization, with international ties, has the majority of its services based in Abilene.”
