SPEC 3 Construction to Begin Soon
January 29, 2008
Five Points Business ParkA local company was awarded the contract to build the Abilene's Five Points Business Park's third speculative building. The Development Corporation of Abilene board members voted unanimously to accept Bulldog Constructors of Texas Inc.'s bid of $5.22 million to build the 100,000 square-foot building. The corporation budgeted $5.74 million for the bid and a 10 percent contingency.
The cost of the building includes a basic shell, the walls and a roof. Once a company chooses to fill the space, the rest of the building can be completed to meet its needs. Two other speculative buildings have been constructed at the business park, located south of Interstate 20 in northwest Abilene. SPEC 1 is occupied by Zoltek, a carbon fiber producer, and SPEC 2 is occupied by PWP Industries, a plastics manufacturer.
"I think it's a good venture for the city as a whole," said Mack Jones, president of Bulldog. "Anything that brings new enterprise to Abilene and the Big Country is good to have in the community, and we are pleased to participate in the project."
