Teleperformance is now hiring for about 300 customer service positions in Abilene, less than two months after the company laid off approximately 120 employees.
Marcie Ballard, vice president of recruiting for the customer service giant, said most of the positions are permanent and full-time, with some temporary and part-time positions also available.
“We secured a brand-new client for this business, and this client is really growing quite significantly,” said Ballard, adding that the company also has expanded hiring at call centers in Georgia, Florida and Pennsylvania.
Businesses turn to Teleperformance to handle customer service, with representatives answering calls and also communicating with customers through online chats.
The new client is a cell phone company, Ballard said, but she declined to name the client.
After the mid-August layoffs, employment at the Abilene customer contact center was down to about 125 workers, Ballard said.
Hiring started last week, and Ballard said the company reached out to many of the workers who had been laid off.
“We have quite a few of those folks coming back,” Ballard said. New hires will earn up to $10 hourly to start, said Ballard.
Work will involve “taking inbound customer service calls from customers who have questions regarding their cell phone bill or service,” she said.
“It’s not just a flash-in-the-pan kind of project,” Ballard added.
Those interested in applying for positions may visit www.teleperformance.com or go to the company’s Abilene location at 949 South Judge Ely Blvd. during business hours, Ballard said.
